Precisely. I do not personally see hypocrisy in this scenario. If a pilot is not hired, Delta is not saying you are not a safe pilot.
As an oversimplified example, if during the interview they believe you might be a pain in the a$$, they will let you safely fly airplanes while continuing to be a pain in someone else's a$$.
