If you don't want said pilot flying a big plane under the Delta banner then why is it okay to fly a little plane? It is the exact definition of hypocrisy.
There is not one single ounce of hypocracy. If the first class meal sucks, people will blame brand X, not Gate Gourmet LLC, Inc., dba OutsourcedFoodGroup 2.0 or whatever. If Air France drops the ball, the customer experience will be effected. But so what. Do you really think there is anything intrinsically different between flying a brand X pax versus a brand Y pax when you work for an outsourced lift provider? What if you work for one of many that fly for several airlines? Technically a RAH pilot flies DL and UAL pax (and others) while a CPZ pilot only flies DL pax. But so what.

Seriously, so what?

It is a different airline and a different job. If you want the brand X mainline job, you have to interview and get hired. You are not owed it in the slightest, and there is no irony if you don't end up getting it.
