I bid the MSPM88 base when it opened to be in the top 55 or 60%. I went up there and sat reserve because they hadn't taken delivery of the MD90s yet.
It wasn't good at the time because I was commuting to reserve (and seniority didn't count then). I vowed not to bid a newly opened category again.
If you live in base, it could be a good deal though.
ghillis101, are there not seatlocks for newhires regardless of the new categories? Seems to defeat the logic, but I don't have time to look up the language in the contract.
Entry level pilots (newhires) get a 12 month category freeze on their initial equipment. A new category is one of the few times where a current category freeze does not prevent a pilot (newhire or otherwise) from being awarded an AE to a new piece of equipment that requires qualification training.
