Haha well to be fair those oddballs exist at every airline. It is our job as FOs to not let them get away with foolish behavior. I'm not a fan of CAs making PA's at the gate because I believe in the mystery theory. Pax revere pilots because we are not easily accessible, were behind a cockpit door, and there's a level of "unknown." When we make announcements at the gate we diminish that a bit. You will never see a Cathay or Singapore pilot do it precisely for the image that passengers expect when they fly on a premium carrier. We as pilots should remember that type of image that passengers love to fantasize about. With that being said, one on one engagement with pax is a huge deal, and a great thing. It really can improve their experience.
