UAL drove AWAC bankrupt to acquire Wisconsin' s gates in ORD. The renamed company that is the current isn't the same one from earlier times. It is similar with similar routes, but it was created by the 6 investors that hold it now. UAL still held the original name Air Wisconsin. When UAL filled bankruptcy in the early 2000's, the original Air Wisconsin was even listed as part of their owned companies.
Air Wisconsin company today is an offshoot of the original AWAC. Sooo.... to say AWAC has been around for 46 years and they they'll be alright ain't exactly true.
I felt like I saw the writing on the wall back in 2007 and left ASAP.
