Let me first say I believe there is some value in profiling, but

A couple weeks ago, there was a dead Isis fighter who was American and not born Muslim. There are a larger number of Ethiopian cabin cleaners who are not Isis fighters.

That said, IMO, the real issue with (potential) domestic terrorists is whether or not they integrate into society or keep themselves separated from it.
