Let's be clear on who got screwed with the pay rates, the 757 and 763 pilots. They make significantly less than our Delta peers. The 737 is also slightly behind due to the blended rate.
Guess who makes more than our Delta peers. The 764,787 & A320. The airplane that received the greatest windfall is the Airbus A320.
As we receive more 787's and the fleet grows to 65 (possibly 100 airplanes) that's just more guys making more than a Delta pilot. We will have THOUSANDS of pilots flying at higher rate than Delta and the (retiring) 747 will still be equal.
Just to recap, the 757 and 763 guys got hosed. Everybody else did fine with pay banding.
I agree that the 757/767-300 guys got hosed and the 767-400/787 rode the coattails of the 747/777. That was our mistake - the 767-400/787 should have been used to pull the 757/767-300 up. As it is now, the 787/767-400 is holding back the 747/777 and doing nothing to help the 757/767-300.
Some guys want to keep this retiring fleet thing going with the 747. Would anybody care to tell us when the 787 will dominate that pay band. 10-15 years and maybe 2/3 contracts. You do know that in about 15 years over half of our pilots will have likely retired waiting for the 787 to earn it's keep. In the meantime, we(a large part of the United pilots) lost money pulling down the 747/777 band and not pulling up the 757/767-300 band.
Do the math - how many 747/777's - how many 767-400/787 and how many 767-300/757's. It's time to cut the coattails dragging down the 747/777 and force the 767-400/787 earn it's keep by pulling up the 767-300/757.
For you be like Mike guys - this from the Delta forum on their pay bands:
