Folks often confuse ALPA National with ALPA *Local*...Locals like EGL and PSA, where individual pilots within that Local both negotiate their own CBAs (with assistance from National) and ratify or reject those CBAs.
EGL pilots *knew* contraction and even shutdown was a possibility when they rejected their TA. Having the hindsight of what happened to Comair, they rolled the dice and took their chances.
It sucks, but one cannot logically blame ALPA National for this without first and primarily casting "blame" where it truly belongs - the Local level.
Sure, but I'm pretty sure Moak's signature is required on these contracts. National endorses them. Hell, Moak was at the table for our BK contract at Endeavor. National could squash these contracts, but they don't. Shifting planes and destroying jobs is an abomination of union representation.
