I don't know much about the 320, but I assume "better" trips vs the 717. I like the idea of BHM overnights in the 717, but it's a pretty substantial pay bump to the other aircraft. I just don't want to sit reserve for a year to get it.
I saw part of this question asked earlier, so I apologize for the repeat.
The general idea is, if you bid the more junior aircraft (717 in your case) you will move up faster, onto a regular line vs. being stuck on the bottom of a more 'senior' airplane.
In times of great movement (at the bottom) like we are finally seeing, that can sometimes get skewed a bit, but in general, once the dust settles, you will move up faster on the junior equipment, as those above you will move to the higher paying stuff.
