I think he is just saying that there are many ways to look at this career. Some guys dream of flying WB long haul international. Others want to fly turns and be home every night while others prefer North and South flying staying in one time zone.

Some bid for $$$$, some bid for QOL. While some things are valued by all - more $$$, more vacation etc, there is no one "ideal" airline job for all.
