To be fair and balanced though, there was definitely a huge failure at the MEC level to not communicate to the wider pilot group that they were actually negotiating these things. There was no reason to keep the CDO's a secret.
The reason was that they knew it didn't have a prayer of passing unless they could slip it past us. Most of us didn't know what the term "split duty period" even meant. When the cat got let out of the bag on the forums and people figured out it was CDO's... well, the rest is history. Or is it?
In any case, it's just like you said... huge failure at the MEC level. Or more accurately, their plan to slip these things past us didn't work.
