The article brought up an interesting point that the left seat relief pilot was a management guy who flew once every couple months. That's not exactly a whole lot of currency. As for the control differences between B vs A, BirgenAir was a 757 with the CA side pitot tube blockage in which the CA rode the stick shaker all the way to the Ocean. The FO had a yoke and it didn't make a difference in that case.
