AWAC is an expensive operator and have never won an RFP. All previous aircraft were placed with UAL when they expanded their RJ flying from 328's to RJs. They were supposed to get 140 but got 70 then SkyWest starting picking up the slack. After 9/11 the UAL bankruptcy court threw out the AWAC contract and it went to Mesa for a roughly 30% less cost (that is a big number). After AWAC lost that contract the owners threw a hail mary and bought their Airways flying. AWAC still has a scope carve out in UAL's contract for 18 large RJs that UAL hasn't taken advantage of, what does that tell you about their operating costs?

The business environment is very different than what was in place pre-9/11 when AWAC got the first order. Back then UAL made a phone call to the owners and presto more planes were ordered. Very different today. It's sad but it is what it is. Look what is happening to every other expensive operator. ExpressJet, Eagle, Comair (gone), the list goes on.

If you are former military just looking to get current it would be a great place. Ex-121 CA with some PIC time in tprops, yep good option. Just starting out? What are you thinking? Go to Mesa/PSA/Compass and get the 2-3 year upgrade (or less) and GTFO out of the commuters ASAP.

Coming to AWAC now would be like going to Eagle. Top heavy with a decent amount of lifers with no desire to move up the food chain. Don't set your career back 2-3-4-5 years going to a stagnant dead-end commuter.

There was a short time in recent history where 2004-2005 hires got a rapid upgrade there and most of them have bailed. That was due to the shift to Airways and a large amount of the guys who were happily flying DEN and ATW day trips left. The people left aren't going anywhere. For the people hired after they sit around 6-7 years. That is a long time to sit in the right seat. IMO.

The CEO there is a puppet. He works for the owners and his hands are tied for all intents and purposes.
