That must have been something special for just the 777. They can be assigned to reserves just like any other trip on the 767 and 330.
Not if you haven't been taking Malarone for 4 days prior they can't.
I had a discussion with the ATL Int. Chief Pilot about this very topic a few years ago. He asked me if I had my Malarone prescription.
I said, "Nope, I'm never going there, so I don't need it."
He said, "Well, what if they cancel your Dubai trip and assign you a Lagos trip for recovery?"
I said, "That's what sick leave is for, I'll just sick out of it BEFORE I go and get Malaria, so I'll save Delta a bundle in both Malarone prescriptions and malaria treatment costs."
No argument from him. BTW, he'd never been there either and had no desire to go, and this was BEFORE the Ebola thing!
