However, per the UPA the company may waive any freeze it desires so it is certainly possible for new-hires (or anybody else) to be awarded something that on the surface appears unusual. It all just depends on where the company is projecting it wants pilots.
As always, the only thing that really counts is the final award.
Where is that language in the UPA. I understand waiving freezes for new hire lateral moves (EWR 320 to SFO 737) and new hire from wide body to narrow body (EWR 756 to SFO 73/IAH320) ... But it seems they are not waiving the freeze for EWR 76t guys.
If they waive a freeze it should be for anyone to bid INTO a category. (If your seniority can hold it)
Not to waive a freeze in a current category and in turn, let a junior guy move to a base and category the senior guys wants and can certainly hold.
