At face value it makes little sense but from what I've heard this caveat to the 20 e-175s was primarily written as an out for AAG. Let's say AAG wants to go with another carrier for the 175s, all they have to do is purposefully stonewall negotiations with the FAs or Mechanics and they are free and clear from their commitment.
