You might have some other things on your app that helped but for a civilian OTS looking for an interview, these credentials will not even come close to getting you an interview. 50% of all new hires are from the military, that's a lot of guys and the other 40% are from SSP/flow. That leaves the rest of us all fighting for the last 10% and that makes for some stiff competition.
Delta has said over and over that it is not who you know but what is on your app that will get you the job. I have met both VP's for Delta, two chief pilots know me by name, I have gotten personal emails for AK, I have met one of the application screeners , talked to 4 recruiters and 2 pilots that do the interviews and I can tell you it doesn't matter who you know. United hires based on who you know but delta is all about your application.
I doubt you will find someone who has been hired recently this year that is a civilian and not flow/SSP with a 3.0 GPA. The only other exemption is if your dad works for delta or your did a internship. It's not a crap shoot and to make a statement that delta randomly pulls from the bottom, defeats the purpose. Don't let crewdawg fool you, he actually has exactly what Delta is looking for.
I agree with this. crewdawg is exceptional with his military flying. They are interviewing every one of them that they can. Someone that completes military training through flying as PIC is the standard, and from what I've seen, for good reason.
Don't play the race or gender card- I've seen every newhire class since early September with my own eyes. It's very very much white males.
I did have a newhire in the jumpseat who spent 10 years at Skywest... only had one rec. He wasn't a check airman, but had plenty of jet PIC. I finally nailed it down how he got the call: He had started a program in his home town where he (and a few others) gave at risk youth private pilot ground school. At the culmination of the program, they took the students flying in a 172. Pretty cool, and he really set himself apart doing that. Take notes!
