I did have a newhire in the jumpseat who spent 10 years at Skywest... only had one rec. He wasn't a check airman, but had plenty of jet PIC. I finally nailed it down how he got the call: He had started a program in his home town where he (and a few others) gave at risk youth private pilot ground school. At the culmination of the program, they took the students flying in a 172. Pretty cool, and he really set himself apart doing that. Take notes!
He non revd on my flight, too! What a neat guy! I was so encouraged by his background and story. It gave me hope for my "normal" friends to get on at DAL.
