He actually had more to his application than just the teaching at risk children. He had 8,500 total hours and 10 years flying 121, 4000 TPIC, Graduated manga cum laude with a 3.9 GPA, Graduated in less than 4 years, no tickets or moving violations, never failed a checkride, several awards and scholarships as well. This is about as perfect as an applicant as you can get.
I finally have a friend that that got hired yesterday who is an fo. Again he actually has a very well rounded resume too. They are looking at an entire picture when they look at your app. Your GPA is not the single qualifier but it caries a lot of weight. The guy has no TPIC time which is frustrating to others but he has scholarships and awards as well as part of a safety audit program for a 121 carrier. His GPA is 3.7 and he is activity involved in the community.
Delta looks at the entire picture. For us civilians guys it could take awhile to get the call. As one guy stated, delta likes the military because they show a progression. They want the same thing from a civilian. They want to see progression. You don't want to be the average guy because they are not getting the call right now. I'd be willing to be bet most of the guys that have been hired are not just average or normal. Another 121 FO I know just got hired but his dad works at Delta. I don't believe delta is hiring anyone "normal" or "average" right now. Don't try and compare yourself to others or you will become frustrated. We all will get a chance to interview it's just a matter of time.
How much time did the FOs you know have?
