I suspect the big reason NYC is junior is location. Take a look at all positions in NY. I don't think it has to do with the shrinking fleet. They put 60 new hires on the aircraft in 07. Many were displaced off the aircraft yet came back to it the first chance they got. NY is a junior base period on all fleets. Always has been and always will be.
The shrinking fleet does play into it. Over the last few AEs, I've had close to 40-50 guys senior to me bid out, yet the overall category pilot count has shrunk by that many so my relative position has stayed the same. NYC88A plug is now junior to me and I've gone back and forth over the QOL/pay question. Looks like either way I get to mess with noobs though!
