gbruyn, I think you may be missing the point (understandably, given your position). On the trig questions, they expect you to do pilot math, i.e., find the one that's "close enough," and go with that. Notice that the answers are not terribly close to one another. Same thing with the 60:1-type questions.
Can't help you with the "build me a jet engine"-type questions--that's rote memorization, and it baffles me as to why that stuff is still on the test when, once you get to training, you're actively discouraged from studying systems any more deeply than "what switch do I throw when the light comes on"....
