The insanity that if you upgrade to the new subscription method, you give control of your logbook to LTP. It would be one thing if, at anytime, you decided to no longer pay for the subscription, you would not receive any more updates but still be able to log flights. But for them to lock you out if you stop paying, its extortion.
What will stop them from raising the annual fee year after year? Extorting people for $200+ a year because they know their logbook can't be used if they stop paying. Who is to say they don't start preventing any user form exporting their logbook info to another company down the road?
By signing up for the new subscription, you are giving them the keys to your logbook for life.
I do not have an issue paying a very small monthly fee to update existing software that I own, to continue to support it. I understand that is where the market is heading. But to now offer for free what we all paid $150+ for, and then a monthly charge on top of that, while giving control of our logbook to them...no way.
The 50% off first year is a joke too. Slight of hand..."Sign up cheap, look how cheap. Now we have your logbook for your career and you are subject to any cost increases we decide. Don't pay and you can't do anything with your logbook. Maybe we will let you export it or print it"
