That's the thing though... I know I'm not the ace of the base. As soon as I start to feel cocky, the aviation gods very swiftly put me in my place. I'm fortunate to do something I enjoy, at a fairly decent company, with mostly really great mentors and co-workers. Most of the folks I fly with are awesome, very experienced, and leave me learning new and better ways to improve myself as a professional pilot.

But I have very little tolerance for condescending jerks, and at this point I've seen enough to know such attitudes are created by high levels of insecurity. Maybe they're afraid of the airplane or aviation, or a bad home life, etc. It's very predictable, and it's not something I enjoy witnessing.
