I'm not sure about that. I sat reserve in a small domicile for a while that was downsizing and very fat on pilots. I had a 3 month period where I flew 2.0 block, but I got called to sit 8 hours of RDY and got TDYs all over the system constantly. I hardly ever got any kind of useful assignment but crew support made sure they wasted as much of the company's money as they could to keep it from looking like I was sitting at home getting paid not to 'work'. I don't know if the size of domicile or staffing level really makes it any better for anyone.
Luckily I only had to sit reserve for a year so I didn't have it nearly as bad as some of the 6+ year perma-reserve captains. We'll see what happens when I upgrade.
