Colgan did not require one, so I got a nonTSO uflymike. I wasn't about to get a whole new one once I transferred over to the other operaton, and now nearly 3 years after moving over to 9E I have't had a problem yet. I've had dih inspectors before and they don't seem to care and have yet to ask if they are TSOd.
9E does Not provide heasets. THey do have observer headsets though. The observer headsets in ll of our ac were Telex 750s... For some reason, somebody it was a great idea to replace all of those 750s with some crappy abomination that a pre-private student would show up holding. They were coing through the fleet one day in DTW collecting all the 750s to literally throw away. I may or may not have rescued a few from live as dumpster filler.
I'd be careful with that. At TSA all was well and good until our POI caught some guy with a non TSO headset and yanked our ability to use any headset but the one specifically listed by Embraer as approved for the 145 so now we are stuck using company headsets unless you want to go out and buy this particular headset. Company has been trying to get back to using TSO headsets for a while, and hopefully will soon.
