It's just really painful to have to get a loan for around $5-7,000 for a rating I only plan to use for a few hundred hours until Im qualified for something else. I'm in no way up on the current cost of obtaining a CFI (it's been over 25 years since I got mine), but here's another thought on obtaining it: Why move somewhere else just to obtain the CFI? It might well be more viable to find a good school, and go there for a couple of weeks and knock it out if that is your desire. You could find an inexpensive hotel or furnished executive apartment for the amount of time you'd be there - no reason to pull up stakes completely if there is a potential to freelance where you are currently.
