Trying to save a gallon or two of AVGAS and not taking the few extra minutes to enter the pattern the right way for the right runway is just begging for an incident. A few weeks ago I flew my own private plane down to St.Simons to attend the AOPA fly in. I was actually somewhat disappointed at how many pilots can't follow simple direction, can't fly there aircraft at slow speed, and seem to want to enter the pattern in any damn direction they pleased despite knowing there are a lot of airplanes in the sky. It's was akin to combat flying in the landing pattern.
