This is not a slap at EAS...as it seems it's a fairly common mindset.
Personally, I see it as a childish management style. You trust a guy or gal with $10++MM in aircraft, and a billion in aggregate liability... and feel the need to tell someone what to eat for lunch?? As far as the "one person who ruined it", how about deal with him or her?
I blew up like an airship under such rules, as the other crewmembers always insisted on catching EVERY meal, so the company wouldn't get away with anything. (also childish)
On a recent 3-day to Chicago as single pilot, I enjoyed an $89 steak dinner drinking water and having no desert. However, left to my own devices, my daily meals average turned out to be $35/day.
I think most people are reasonable. I think pilots are more reasonable yet.
Again sir, your company sounds great overall, and your enthusiasm is laudable. This is just a pet-peeve of mine which I think is embedded with unintended consequences.
