He's worried about "his". Some of the senior guys see little loss in giving in and he's one of them. He's voted yes for every deal and offer available because he believes he's too high for any cesspool that results to reach his altitude. The "good lucks" he usually throws in to his posts are a smokescreen just like Jerry's threats. The worst weakness people like that have is the inability to see their own transparency.
