I retired as a major

What amount $ after tax would I get each month

Not to start a debate.
but take the I would like my spouse to get some of my pay $ after i die...survivor benefit.

Please don't argue this too hard either but choose tricare or tricare for life.

Rhetorical ? do you think social security will still pay for the next 30 years or be bankrupt. Or will I get some kind of a "you get a government pay check" you cant get two scenario?

These posts can get angry please answer if you can or let it go.
You won't be eligible for Tricare for Life until you are eligible for Medicare as Tricare for life is a Medicare supplement. If you live near a military treatment facility (MTF), go with Tricare Prime. Its $547 per year and costs nothing out of pocket except for prescriptions.

Health Plans - TRICARE Prime

If you don't live near a MTF go with Tricare Standard. There is no premium. There are out of pocket costs and you get to choose your own doctor.

Health Plans - TRICARE Standard and Extra

Social Security ain't going away. By the time I am eligible (in 27 years or so) it will be reduced compared to what recipients get today.
