I didn't have a hard approved date when I applied and interviewed. AFPC is two step process at least for retirement. Step 1--you ask if you are eligible and Step 2 you then have a few weeks to apply once they reply to step 1. At the interview I just took the letter that I was eligible to apply for retirement. I then waited several months and then actually completed Step 2 and set a hard date. When my indoc came a month earlier than expected I then asked AFPC to move up my retirement date a month earlier and they approved it. My timing was such that I went to indoc on normal leave and then signed out on terminal after.

Bottomline: in today's environment you don't have 4-6 months to do this shuffle but if you have a workable plan that you can expect to reasonably execute and explain then just be honest and up front. Update your app with that date and let them know that when you call for interview date. If they have put you on the interview list they want to hire you.
