On the app, don't lie...ever...about anything. If you put a date of availability, it should be legit. As for things like hours in the past 12 months, try and remember that the app is basically scored as a whole. So, if you're a PhD Astronaut with only 10 flying hours in the last year, it'll probably even out. If you're a regular dude, you might need a few more hours. Also, the apps are scored by actual people, not some HAL computer. Try and get a buddy to give you an internal rec to make sure your app gets scored. It's half skill, half luck and half timing.
