It's our nicest airport and best short layover. For the east coast to NRT it is awesome. If that goes away and you need to bypass NRT then SEA becomes favored. I guess we move to SEA.
SEA is too far for connections from the east coast and midwest to Asia.
Premium pax want to take a short flight to sit in business class on a long flight, instead of a transcon in domestic first class and then still sit in business on a long flight.
DTW's geographic location for both Asia flying, and for shoving as many pax into AMS/CDG/LHR as possible for codeshare continuations, is unbeatable and is a perfect reliever for NYC.
I think it will be around indefinitely. Not grow, but not go away either.
