When I first started flying checks at night I was paired up with a guy we called, "Gear Up, Head Down" because as soon as the gear was up and the airplane trimmed up, he'd go head down, nodding off, while hand flying in the climb.
I'd just gently nudge the yoke in the right direction from time to time in the climb, and put the A/P on at top of climb. He was building his own house in the daytime, by himself, and flying all night to pay for it.
