I had a very interesting discussion with a retired Boeing engineer on a flight a while back. Apparently, something very similar to what happened at UAL also happened to Boeing. When Boeing bought McDonnell Douglas, the McD management largely took over Boeing. According to him, the 787 debacle is largely due to their gross mismanagement. Sound familiar?
