There's a plethora of pilots in the Majors who are very happy to spend their career in the right seat of a widebody. Pay is adequate and they never have to go commuting to chase an upgrade on a narrow body and sit reserve.
You have a point...if upgrade is the key to your happiness. QOL, days off and preferred routes is what does it for a whole lot of pilots.
