I appreciate DALFA's tone, but not his/her attempt to insert this discussion into the L&G. The effect, if not purpose, of discussing the FA's right to self-representation is to pigeonhole us in two categories: 1) we fear the FA's having a union because we're jealous, so they should get one, 2) we support the FA's having a union because it's great, so they should get one.
Even though this is our forum, we're not the intended audience for this discussion, so I see zero upside to it.
It isn't even
possible to make intelligent pronouncements on the IAM drive at Delta, because each union behaves differently at each property. There might be pilots here that have a
philosophical viewpoint on this issue, or experience with the IAM or AFA elsewhere, but no one, absolutely no one, has any idea how this group would behave with a union, as divided as the FA's are.
DALFA, it's up to you guys to determine whether you're going to swing the momentum towards having an effective, unionized group, or not. It's one of the tests of self-representation. If your drive hinges on support or opposition from other groups, there is a problem.
Good luck.
