Calculated risk. Given the industry outlook, you can probably get away with deferring class date to get based where you want to live. That would be the ONLY reason to defer..."engine-under-wing" time is a really, really stupid reason to pass on an earlier class date.

There's a possibility that the decision might bite you in the butt (ie 9/11 type event). But that knife cuts both ways...I deferred my hire date a few weeks because my wife wanted to execute a planned family vacation. I barely missed upgrade when the music stopped, but I spent the first few years of my youngest child's life as a senior FO instead of commuting to rock-bottom junior reserve CA. I don't care how much it costs on the back end of my career, those years were worth it. But you just never know...
