If the contract allows it, do it. Its a negotiated contractual item. There are lots of people who don't like certain provisions, and then they to manipulate or guilt others to not exercise them. They usually site "the next contract negotiations". The bottom line is that no matter what we do, the company doesn't care enough to make a difference in the next contract talks.

The company is never going to overhire to have enough pilots to not have scheduleing flexibility, and we realized this which is why when they do want flexibility, it costs the company and benefits the individual pilot.

If the union feels so strongly about an issue (minimum days off for example) then they will set a hard line that can't be crossed. Everything else is at the individual pilot's discretion. If someone doesn't like it, then they should go volunteer to negotiate the next contract.

A guy moving a vacation day to get add pay, if allowed, sounds like a great deal. All within the contract. Go for it, don't listen to the haters.
