Default Sequence Protection for LUS pilots

Hopefully this won't turn into another JCBA/MTA yes/no debate.

After reading the MTA, I was under the impression that we would be pay protected for trips canceled due to WX, even if the trip cancels before we report for duty. Then I read this (see below) off the APA website today and interpret this paragraph to mean that if my trip cancels BEFORE I report for duty (ie sign in) that I will not be paid. ***?!

Maybe I get paid because it's my last trip of the month, which is better but still $h!ty. If my interpretation is incorrect please tell me...if im correct, please tell me this is changing eventually, and when.

My situation is that I usually commute out a day early and actually tried to go out two days early but was unable. My flight is on Wednesday and is Shuttle work which I think will get canceled. I don't want to waste a day and half commuting out, only to not get paid.

Here is the paragraph:

For US Airways East pilots, "the Company shall provide pay protection for any trips cancelled after a pilot reports for duty. Should a pilot's trip sequence be interrupted or cancelled, the pilot will remain available for rescheduling during the footprint of the original cancelled trip, and will be paid the greater of the value of the original scheduled trip or the value of any rescheduled trip. With crew scheduling's concurrence, a pilot may elect to waive this sequence protection at the time of interruption or cancellation and forfeit the pay protection provided hereunder. A pilot will also be pay protected for any disruption or cancellation of the last trip of the month (including a series of trips), including any disruption, cancellation or removal from a trip (or series of trips) due to legality issues and the pilot will remain available for rescheduling during the footprint of the original trip (or series of trips) cancelled or removed."

Again, not looking for a JCBA debate.

Thanks
