For sightseeing, I don't really like high-speed trains. Windows can't be opened, there is less "elbow room", and the train frequently has to slow down anyway for track or traffic conditions. (Same thing with boats -- you probably remember Seattle's grand old "Princess Marguerite", which was far better than what replaced it.)
