Really? I just landed in ATL at 0'dark thirty in 1/2 mile vis in fog, and I remember telling my copilot, "I LOVE these new lights!".

They are brighter than the old ones, no doubt, but when the vis is down and you want to find the runway, well, which would you rather have?
