No one really knows how the application is scored but to imply that a community college guy that gets a 2.8 gpa in ten years of schooling would get an interview over a fighter pilot or an Ivy League college guy just because he went to a job fair is ludicrous.
All things being equal, a well qualified applicant with a properly filled out application will be much better off networking than not. If you get your app looked at and they give it the green light, how has networking not helped you?
I know networking was the key to getting my app looked at and then getting hired.
