At 9-11 we had about 10,000 Pilots and furloughed about 1100. This does not count the second round of Pilots which the company tried to furlough with a FM claim, but the arbitrator disagreed and they came back fairly quickly. Counting them would put the number at about 1300 as posted above.

The company is very different now and in my opinion even a 9-11 type of event would not cause a 10% furlough for the following reasons:

- Huge retirements coming up.
- We are now a much leaner operation.
- back then we had FEs that were slowly converting to FOs. The 9-11 event greatly accelerated the FE retirements.

I would say 1000 pilots below is a good safety cushion.

That said, never say never.
