It was actually the retired general who was initially put in charge that wanted to keep the Iraqi army intact and pay them. The suit that shortly came later quickly disbanded it. It's a tough call actually. However, in the end disbanding the army caused multitudes of problems which may or may not have materialized.
What they should have done is put THE 80ktsclamp super moderator in charge. NewK would've been to thoughtful (smiley) and Timbo would've just drank all the beer and chased burkas.
