I just feel sorry for the Mesa guys who have to fly there. Good luck finding a decent place to live. I was based there as a new hire with NWA. During my probationary period, my paycheck did'nt even cover the rent! Wife worked (self employeed) and her income and our savings covered everything else. Finally able to buy there with the help of a jumbo loan. We were there from '97 - '02. We went back there in Jan to visit friends and the price of housing is unbelievable! Sold our house in '02 for $490,000 (no we didnt make that much). Now, the average home is over $900,000 in the old neighborhood. I'm not talking bout 3,000 sf on the beach, I'm taking cinder block construction, 1400 - 1800 sf in Kailua. Could'nt even think of going back if NWA reopened a base there.
I belive the average price of a "home" on Oahu now is around $400,000 - $500,000. That will get ya about 1200 sf. Be nice to your neighbors, cause they will be about 20 -30 ft from ya. Don't believe me, checkout
