From "Forgot To Bid": Anyways, doesn't the MEC dictate to the NC what to do? If there is 1 guy that wants to trade PS for GM, what's wrong with hearing about it now in full? Why wait until an entire TA is negotiated and dropped in our laps with a sales pitch and a demand to sign it or face the consequences?[/QUOTE]
Nice theory, but it didn't happen in 2012. The fact is that the conference call just 36 hours before the announcement of a T/A included a "suggestion" from the MEC Chairman and the Negotiating Chairman that we consider a reduction in PS to get better pay rates. The resulting discussion ended with a general sentiment of: No, our pilots did not ask for a trade of one type of pay for another, just a stiff increase" (an opinion of the general sentiment of the LEC reps).
In this case the LEC's provided direction and both the NC and the MEC Chairman ignored it. Then the sales job began to push for a unanimous vote to send the mediocre agreement to the pilots for their stamp of approval.
