Yes, and you are correct. It can be a good bid strategy if you live in base. If you're lucky, you'll get those rest periods at home. If not, it could be a long few weeks.
I have a 12 day stretch right now and will end a 4 day trip tomorrow and they assigned me 30 hours rest when I end tomorrow night. So I get a day off at home in the middle of my reserve duty. Just remember that if you get a rotation with a 30 hour layover that also resets you for another 6 day stretch. I used to get 30 hours off in my crashpad and I would either go home or non rev to another city to see family or friends.
