If you really want ATL, I think your best option would be the 88. It is a huge category in ATL and new hires will be leaving. 320 in ATL is a very small category, thus less movement. Sorry, no idea how long it would take to get out of NYC on the 320 (or the 88, but I would think the 88 would be a faster ticket to ATL). The timing to get from NYC320 to ATL320 is completely dependent on the AE schedule and how many guys bid off the 88/717 to the ATL320 category...no way to really tell until it happens. If you hate the 88, it is only a 1 year seat lock and you will have a much better idea where you stand after a year.
