Declaring "must ride" and giving your supervisor's name seems to be the work around for this as was explained to me by some UAX guys in my class.
That is NOT how UAL does it - that is how CAL did it in the past. Multiple bulletins later to gate agents have not changed their behavior so politely stand firm on the "must ride" question.
Supervisor I usually say FODM and then give them the number - lol.
They find a seat every time for me.
